The Short Answer
The Waning sits at a heat level of 3 to 4 out of 5 peppers. The love scenes happen on the page, with real heat and some explicit language, but the focus stays on emotion. It isn’t closed-door, and it isn’t erotica either.
What to Expect
- A slow build. The first kiss comes roughly a third of the way in, and the first love scene a little past the halfway mark.
- A few on-page love scenes, plus plenty of heated kissing and tension.
- Consent as a love language. Drake asks, waits, and listens. That’s part of why he’s such a good sexy vampire.
- Emotion first. The love scenes show you who these two are when they let their guard down.
- Vampire details. Drake’s skin runs cooler than a human’s, and Nia notices.
Let’s Talk About Vampire Sex
Vampire sex raises questions romance readers love. What about the bite? What about the hunger? What about control?
In The Waning, control is the point. Drake measures every touch. Half the thrill is watching a man who has spent centuries holding himself in check slowly lose his grip.
Who This Spicy Vampire Romance Is For
If you like vampire romance books for adults with a real plot, a mystery, and a love story that builds, this is a good fit. If you want pure steam with no story, or you want the door closed at the bedroom, this isn’t the right book for you. That’s okay. I’d rather you know.
Content Notes
- Explicit on-page love scenes.
- Violence and blood, including a few fights.
- A supernatural stalker, with references to unwanted attention toward the heroine in childhood (referenced, not shown).
- Addiction themes, including alcoholism in the heroine’s family.
- Grief and the loss of a parent.
- A character questioning and leaving her childhood religion.
